Creation Care Tip: Operation Blue Skies – Tackling Climate Change Impact by Adjusting Flight Paths

Flight paths and a moon in a blue sky

Click here to read about “Operation Blue Skies”.  Launched Tuesday and backed by the British government (with help from Google UK’s AI-powered forecasting tools) this trial will adjust the paths of hundreds of commercial flights over the northeastern Atlantic Ocean during the next two winters to show how minor altitude changes can reduce aviation’s climate impact from contrails.  When planes fly through cold and humid areas, ice crystals can form around the soot particles from engine exhaust, creating condensation trails (contrails) – these clouds then trap heat and warm the planet, and make up 1-2% of Earth’s global warming.
