Climate Care: Good News on Renewable Energy & Reduced Auto Emissions

Cars driving in the city at night

Over 20 global leaders at Climate Week NYC called for accelerated clean electrification and tripling renewable energy by 2030.  Renewables grew 15.5% in 2025. If the annual growth rate rises to 16.7%, renewables will triple by 2030.  Accelerating renewables by 2030 is a key policy instrument towards the 1.5°C Paris goal.

2026 emissions will be down the equivalent of 103 million gas cars thanks to “demand destruction” of oil from the Iran War.  Global demand for oil in 2026 will decline 2.5 percent, compared with last year, erasing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions equal to 42 million gas cars. Since an increase in oil use was predicted, the savings from that higher amount is equal to 103 million gas cars.  IEA.  The big question is how much of this reduction will persist. Oil companies say diesel costs will not return to normal for at least a year.
