Burning Hearts

A heart glowing with fire

We had hoped. Between our expectations and our realities there is a seemingly insurmountable gap. There is disappointment and disillusionment. ‘I had hoped things would be easier once I gave my life to Christ.’ ‘We had hoped God would see our suffering and intervene.’ ‘I had hoped to be with my family instead of in jail this holiday.’ ‘I had hoped my mother would bail me out this time.’ I had hoped is an honest and sacred space where God has just enough room to move, to stir our hearts. I had hoped is a confession, a prayer, a longing.”  –Anne Wilde, sermon from the Third Sunday in Easter
