Do you wonder what technology advance has had the biggest impact on reducing burning of
fossil fuels? Some have said it was the electronic vehicle, but this week Bill McKibben has said
it is the e-bike. He said, “Even better than the E.V. is the e-bike, which I think may turn out to be
the transformative invention of our time on Earth.” See his column for details.
Do you avoid talking about climate change because it is so controversial? Katharine Hayhoe
consistently says the most important thing we can do to change our government’s policy is to
talk about climate change because that will build the political will for change. In her column , she
points out that the majority of Americans support work to combat climate change. A recent
survey showed that across 125 countries, people consistently under-estimated how much their
fellow citizens cared. In Japan the news media is working to help change that. 136 news
organizations across Japan are working together to remind people that 89% of Japanese
people support stronger climate action. Let’s hope this trend continues.
