Growing Connections

A group of youth and parents gathered around a table

At every baptism, we promise to “support these persons in their life in Christ.” We answer joyfully, “We will!” This means we all have a role in supporting each other and especially the young people of this parish, helping their parents to raise them in loving, spiritual community.

Parents are longing for nourishment – to be able to participate in the sermon circle, to have other adults teaching them, to know their kids are safe and loved while they have a few moments to do something life-giving.

There are all kinds of ways this can happen – you don’t have to be able to run around outside or get down on the floor! Our youth simply need relationships with adults other than their parents.

This isn’t about filling a list of jobs (though if you’re interested, please see the article about helping supervise on Pentecost or over the summer!). This is about growing connections across generations and growing a community that is deeply invested in one another’s thriving. Please prayerfully consider whether you might have space in your life, even occasionally, to volunteer with the young people of this parish.

For those who are already doing this – in many ways, both formally and informally – thank you for your connections of care and support! For those who might have bandwidth to step in, please consider connecting with Holly or me to see about how you might be in deeper relationship with the children and youth of this parish.

Peace,
Nikky+
